Ed began his USSSA career in 1981 as an Umpire by becoming a member of the Central New York Softball Umpires Association. He was elected Treasurer of the Association in 1983 and still holds the position today. Ed continues to Officiate in Central New York and over the years has had the opportunity to Officiate in various Local, State, Divisional and World Tournaments.

In 1982 Ed became a Board Member of the Liverpool Girls Softball League, which is a youth program with over 400 participants. He was elected Vice President in 1983 and served in that position until 2002. Ed is still active in the League as their USSSA Area Director and runs their annual Senior Division Tournament.

Ed was appointed in 1994 as a USSSA Area Director for Syracuse and Onondaga County. He has served as the Tournament Director for several Local, State and National Tournaments. In 2001 Ed was appointed Secretary for Upstate New York.

On a National level Ed has been attending the USSSA National Meeting since 1993. In 2004 at the National Meeting in Jacksonville, Florida Ed received the Dwight Hall Sparkplug of the Year award for the Northeast Division.

Ed credits his success in USSSA to the continued support and understanding of his family as well as the commitment and dedication of the Directors, Umpires, Players, Coaches and Fans of New York State. To this day he remembers what Al Ciaccia said to him when they first met 'Remember this is a team sport, listen to those around you'.
