Roy was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1947, and moved to Holtsville, Long Island in 1954 where he has since resided. Roy graduated from Sachem High School in 1965. At age 17, he had begun to play organized softball with a team from his first job, HC Bohack.   This softball league was a small business league in the Shirley-Mastic  area.  The following year, Roy started playing for teams in the Brookhaven town league, including the fire department divisions, until present day.

Roy joined the Holtsville-Farmingville Fire Department in 1969. The department split in 1972 in which he remained with the reorganized Holtsville FD. He worked his way up through the ranks to chief of the department in 1981 and 1982. Additionally, he was an EMT for over 10 years.  Currently, Roy is a fire commissioner of the district and has been for over 20 years. This year will mark 50 years of Roy’s dedication to playing and coaching softball.

Softball and the fire service have had a great and positive affect on Roy’s life.  The great people he has met and, most importantly, the lifelong friendships that have been created are so important to him.
