Marty Maningo

Marty began his USSSA career in 1978 as an Area Director in the Town of Brookhaven on Long Island. He was also the Umpire Assignor for the Brookhaven Umpire Association. In 1983, he took over the position of USSSA New York State Director when Al Ciaccia was promoted to Eastern Divisional Executive Vice ' President and served in the position until 1997.

Under Marty's leadership, New York was in the top 10 team registrations and insurance on a yearly basis. He would hold Spring meetings to get the Area and District Directors ready for the new season and in the Fall to get input from the Directors for the upcoming National Meeting. Marty also developed a newsletter that was sent out periodically to all Directors with information that came out from National Headquarters as well as what was going on within the State. He was always willing to listen to his Directors and willing to make changes for the betterment of the program.

In 1988 at the National Convention, Marty was awarded the USSSA President's Award by Executive Director, Al Ramsey. When not traveling to various parts of the State for Softball, Marty and his wife Flo would get away to their summer home in the Adirondack Mountains. During his career Marty was known as a true softball man.
