Elected : USSSA New York Hall Of Fame in 2006
Inducted : March 2007, Rochester, NY
Dick began his career with USSSA in the mid 1970's by becoming a member of the Central New York Softball Umpires Association. He quickly worked his way up in the Association and was elected President in 1978 and served in that position until 1986. Under Dick's leadership, CNY Umpires became one of USSSA's largest Umpire organizations with close to 300 members.
In 1982 Dick was appointed District 3 Director (Central New York) by USSSA State Director Marty Maningo and soon worked his way up in the State as well. He was appointed Secretary / Treasurer and remained in that position until his sudden passing in 2000. Dick was known as a thorough and accurate record keeper. Area Directors could always count on concise and timely reports from Dick.
Dick also served as a mentor to those Area Directors in his District. He was always willing to listen to Directors and Players equally and willing to make changes for the betterment of the programs in his District. One of those changes was the purchasing of the experimental Safety Bag for the Syracuse City Recreation League to test and use prior to USSSA adopting its use. USSSA, New York State and Central New York Softball Umpires Association lost a true softball man with Dick's death in 2000.
