Mimi Braunitzer

Elected : USSSA New York Hall Of Fame in 2010
Inducted : 2011, Syracuser, NY

Mimi was born and raised in Syracuse and lived in the Valley section until moving to the University area.  She was destined to play some kind of ball having two brothers, Bob and Dave, that played baseball and basketball and she always went with her mom to see their games.

In 1976 there was an article in the paper about a fast pitch team that was looking for players. This was the J.C. Girls coached by Jim Ciccone.  Mimi was thirteen years of age when she tried out and made the team.  To this day she credits Jim with her success as a softball player.  Practice was all day on weekends if they weren’t traveling to other states to compete.  The J.C. Girls traveled internationally to Belize, Puerto Rico and Venezuela where they were received by large crowds.  It was a great experience and one never to be forgotten.

Mimi played three years of softball at Corcoran and played at OCC for a year and was placed on the second team All-American list. Mimi continued to play slow-pitch in the Syracuse City Rec. leagues for “many” years on teams that won regional and state championship.

The most indelible parts of her softball experience is the team camaraderie and memories of playing with and against some outstanding athletes.

Mimi would like to thank her “Mama” for being there every step of the way, and thank the USSSA Hall of Fame Directors and organizers for this great honor. This is something you don’t expect for doing what you love.
