Rita Rodriguez

Rita was a graduate of St. John’s the Baptist H.S. in 1977 and went on to St. John’s University on a softball scholarship graduating in 1983.  Rita started her softball career at age 15 playing with a local team “THE KING and I”. In 1980 Rita joined the County Sport's Mice and played for 15 years before retiring in 1994.

Rita, one of the top Shortstops in the country, Participated in 15 National Tournaments which included 5 USSSA World Series and had a lifetime batting average of .480.

Rita was selected to the USSSA All-Tournament team 8 times and was chosen the Outstanding Defensive Player in the 1st USSSA World Series in 1988 in Garland Texas.

In 1986 Rita was named the Long Island Woman’s Player of the Year and in 1999 Rita was inducted into the Long Island Hall of Fame and had her uniform #14 retired.
