Dr. Tamela Ray is the Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics for the Auburn Enlarged City School District, a Class AA district in Central New York. Prior to serving as the Director for the past 30 years, she coached and taught physical education in Auburn at both the high school and elementary levels. Tam received her BS from Ithaca College, MS from UNC-Greensboro, CAS from SUNY Cortland, and in 2010 she earned her Doctorate from Syracuse University in Educational Leadership.
Professionally, Tam is a past president of the Central New York Counties League, the president of Section III, President-Elect for the Council of Administrators, and President-Elect of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
Tam’s softball career spanned more than 25 years. After field hockey and fast pitch softball in college she played on slo-pitch on teams based in Auburn, Ithaca, Syracuse and Rochester. There were several league, tournament, NYS and Regional titles, and even some individual honors earned along the way, but Tam cannot cite the specifics. Tam considers herself fortunate to have such talented players and good people for teammates, many of whom have become life-long friends. She is proud that their core group of teammates, that traveled and played tournaments together as LaPizzeria, were inducted into the NYS USSSA Hall of Fame 2008.
