Elected : USSSA New York Hall Of Fame in 2017
Inducted : March 2018 Smithtown, NY.
Andy was born in 1955 in upstate Red Hook, NY, graduated from Wellesley High School (Massachusetts) in 1973, and married his high school sweetheart, Steph, in 1977.
Andy and Steph raised four kids in Bellport, Long Island, and now have 3 grandkids with another on the way. All four kids, Jen, Toby, Micah, and Casey have worked in the Brookhaven Softball program, and Steph runs the Town’s softball websites.
Since 2001 Andy has worked in the Town of Brookhaven Adult Softball Program as a scorekeeper, scorekeeper assignor, and program administration. From April through October, he can be found out and about at the Brookhaven Town ballfields every night, and Sunday morning, keeping an eye on the games. Andy follows a number of supervisors and scorers from the Brookhaven Program into the Hall of Fame – Pete Eaton, Rick Marz, Al Gordon, Ken Hawkins, and Bob Hawkins.
Sports have always been a large part of Andy’s life, watching his Dad play modified softball in a local Red Hook league in the ‘60s, playing Little League Baseball, CYO Basketball, and High School and college football. Andy coached all four of his children through Little League softball and baseball from T-Ball to Seniors. And watched almost all of his kids’ school sporting events – softball, baseball, football, wrestling.
The most fun Andy ever had on a ballfield was the Fall season that his son, Casey, roped him into playing on a new Sunday morning Slo-Pitch team made up of players from Casey’s Little League and High School teams. The players would say, “Coach, get your butt down”, “Top hand over”, “Need a courtesy runner?” At the end of a winless season, Casey retired his Dad, and a couple of seasons later they won the playoffs.
