Mindy and two great stepchildren, Eric and Stephanie. He has 6 grandchildren and 3 great
grandchildren.

Bob played slow pitch softball for 12 years and then became an umpire and umpired for over
thirty years
.
Some highlights of his career as a player where when his team (Tom’s Mechanical Emporium)
came in first place in the Syracuse City Rec League. He was also involved in a triple play. Bob
was playing third base, the other team had 1st and 2nd with no outs. The batter hit a fly to left
field. The left fielder caught the ball and threw it to Bob because the runner at second was
tagging. He caught the ball, tagged the runner, and threw to second to get the runner who tried to
go to second from first when the throw went to third.

Bob was proud to have umpired the plate at the old MacArthur Stadium when Michael Bolton’s
team played the local news people. One crazy play he remembers was when a player hit the ball,
it bounced in the air in front of the plate and as his bat came around, he hit the ball again (He
immediately called him out). He also umpired many championship games. Bob also won the first
President’s award for the CNY umpires. Bob considers himself blessed to have made so many
friends with fellow umpires and players.
