Don Spence

Don is owner of Hawkins & Spence an asphalt/paving company in Mount Sinai.  Growing up in Pt. Jefferson he has been involved in all aspects of softball. He is being honored by the New York State USSSA Hall of Fame as an inductee in the Sponsor Category.  Don has been a major contributor to softball on Long Island since the 1960s by sponsoring both men’s and women’s teams. In 1964, he helped to form the Northern Brookhaven Softball League.

Don is known to everyone as “Brother”; He really enjoyed the game of softball, often show up at field directly from work and playing with work boots on. Although Don is being honored as a Sponsor, he has spent a great deal of time also playing and coaching the game of softball.  When it became harder for players to find someplace to practice and play, he built a ball field at his business, which surrounded him with softball, and animals which he enjoys and shares with others.                   

Don is a true friend of softball in the Town of Brookhaven.
