Jim began playing USSSA softball in the early 1970's on a team called Sonny's Chair Rental - the best team in the Town of Brookhaven. After a period of time he established himself as one of the top tournament players on the team. The team played in the USSSA National B Tournament in 1978, and on the last day Jim was 32 for 34 with 9 home runs and he was picked for the All Tournament Team.

When Don Spence of Hawkins & Spence became sponsors of the team they began to travel and won many tournaments on Local, State and National levels. In 1984, Hawkins & Spence won the New York State Class A Tournament and the National One Pitch Tournament in Columbus, Ohio. Jim was named to the All Tournament Team in both of the tournaments.

In 1981, he began to play on the Steamfitters Local Union 638 Softball Team where they won the USSSA UA National Tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio. They also won in 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1989.

Influenced by his love of softball his daughter Vicki became a top pitch in the State in 1985 and 1986. She received a full scholarship to Sacred Heart University where she was a two-time All American and still holds many of the University's offensive records.

Jim resides in Port Jefferson, NY with his wife Barbara and son James. He also has two sons Timmy and Matthew and three grandchildren, Jake Kevin and Kay.
