Karl Komyathy

Karl Komyathy grew up in Hauppauge, New York, where he still lives with his wife of 38 years, Michele. Their two daughters, Danielle and Lauren, have fond memories of watching their father play softball throughout their childhood.

 Karl graduated from Hauppauge High School in 1977. During high school Karl was a member of the baseball team. Karl was inducted into the inaugural Hauppauge High School Hall of Fame in 2003. Following high school, Karl attended St. John’s University on a baseball scholarship. He was the recipient of several awards including the Peter T. Smith Award in 1980, which is given to the MVP of the baseball team. He also received the Haggerty Award in 1981, which is given to the outstanding student/athlete.

Karl began his softball career with F&S Auto in 1982. In 1984, he joined the Grumman Aerospace team and they went on to win the Major Industrial National Championship in 1985.  Karl was selected to the First Team All-American Team as a shortstop. In 1986, he was awarded the Long Island Industrial Player of the Year.

In 1987, Karl started with Seltman, Cobb and Bryant (SCB). They competed in numerous tournaments across the country.

1989-2004-USSSA Champs, Town of Brookhaven. League Champs /P layoff Champs or both during this time span.

In 2010, Karl was inducted into the ASA Long Island Hall of Fame. In 2020, SCB received the USSSA A Team of Distinction award. Karl concluded his softball career playing for Radcliffe on their Over 40 team.
