Born in 1972, Mike Merlo had a love of baseball that grew from a young age and well through high school. His college years in Columbus, OH brought a transition into softball and the marked the beginning of his travel career. For the next 25 years, Mike felt blessed and fortunate to play alongside many talented men and generous sponsors. During his early years, he was part of teams that reached the B, C and D worlds, ultimately joining TJ’s/ Ferras to win the 2004 Worlds in Sterling Heights, Michigan. For that remarkable season, he proudly accompanied his teammates in 2016 as a NYS Team of Distinction.
Over the years, Mike was driven by the camaraderie and always placed his focus on the success of the team. Individual distinctions couldn’t compare to the relationships and experiences brought by his career. On the field, he was never graced with the gift of speed, but brought tough competition and tried his best to lead by example. Respect of the game and gratitude for the opportunities that have been awarded him are of the utmost importance to Mike and he is humbled to recognized among so many talented players.
