Sandy Brown

 

Elected : USSSA New York Hall Of Fame in 2021
Inducted : March 2023, Lake Ronkonkoma, NY.

Sandy was born in NJ, raised in Bayside. He served in the Army from 1966 – 1968, then married
Arlene in 1969. They settled in Bohemia and have one son, Michael, and two grandchildren,
William and Matthew who live in Greer, SC. Sandy attended Adelphi University and
Farmingdale State. Now retired, he finished an aerospace career in 2012 at Arkwin Industries as
the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering.
 
Sandy played USSSA softball in 1977 with Sybelle Carpet in Patchogue Village. He led the
league in all offensive categories twice before joining Hawkins and Spence in 1981. They would
rank as high as 8th nationally in the 1980s. They won 28 Brookhaven summer and fall league
championships, NYS USSSA Class A, B, and C titles, and more than 30 tournaments on Long
Island and the northeast. In 1984, they won the USSSA National one-pitch tournament held in
Milford, OH, after being runners-up twice. He also played on 8 NYS USSSA over 40
championship teams. Sandy had numerous all-tournament team awards and 4 league MVP
honors.
 
Notable accomplishments in other national softball organizations:
2001- Inducted into the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame
2004 – Inducted into the ASA Long Island Hall of Fame
1995 – Awarded MVP in Senior Softball World Series held in Palm Springs, CA, playing for the
NY Statesmen.
1994 – 2006 – 9 National Titles, 15 All-Tournament with NY Statesmen.
2002 – Statesmen named 1990’s Senior Softball “Team of the Decade”
1995 – 1st Place Senior Softball World Championships in Overland Park, KS with Skinny
Dugan’s Las Vegas, NV All-Tournament Team.
 
Sandy lives in Medford and coaches on the Benchwarmers/Silver Streaks. He would like to
acknowledge all of the USSSA family of players, managers, coaches, sponsors and teammates
who made softball life so enjoyable. A special thanks goes out to the USSSA Directors and the
HOF Committee for this prestigious honor and congratulations to the other inductees..
