Amos Bozeman

Amos is a native of the State of Florida.  He completed the undergrad program in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from Tuskegee University, a graduate program in Guidance Education from C. W. Post, and the certification program in Driver Education from NYU.

He worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital, the NYS Department of Alcoholism and drug abuse, ending his work career at Deer Park High School teaching Driver Education and Physical Education.  Amos also served as an ASA and USSSA baseball and softball official for 30 years.

Amos began as a solo coach and manager in 1975, coaching his first softball team the Hounds and Foxes, to a successful season.  Other teams that he managed as a solo coach were Amoco’s Travel, HunleysChasers, and the Rusty Nail Chasers.  After these individual coaching years, Amos combined with Bob DeAngelisto coach the Huntington Mice for 25 years.  The highlights and accomplishments of this partnership are already listed in Bobby’s bio notes, we shared most, if not all of those joys together.

While coaching, I concentrated my efforts on teaching, cueing, and refining the skills for the players and the promotion of good emotional health among the players. Through these efforts I learned many things personally beside winning and losing.  The ability to stay positive, the joy in seeing a player advance skill wise, humility and how to learn from others, both coaches and players.  I remember quite well when certain problems would arise, the ladies would say to me, “Don’t worry about it Boze, we’ll take care of it.”  They would do just that.  Most were professional women with a few teens mixed in, and they would take care of certain situations.  All in all, I have many great memories and many warm friendships that developed over the years.  This leaves me feeling satisfied and grateful to all, especially to my friend Bobby, all the great players I worked with and the USSSA organization  for this privilege of recognition.
