Elected : USSSA New York Hall Of Fame in 2010
Inducted : 2011, Syracuse, NY
The City of Syracuse Department of Parks, Recreation and Youth Programs have been a supporter of USSSA and the Central New York Umpire Association for over 30 years. A hotbed of softball throughout the 80’s and 90’s the City consistently registered over 100 Men, Women and Co-Ed teams each year. Games were played 5 nights a week on every field available with many spectator’s enjoying the games at each park. Weekends were filled with make-up games as well as tournaments. The ultimate goal of each and every player and team was to win the covenant City Championship and forever having your team name on that 6 foot trophy. Along with the City Championship came the bragging rights for the next year.
Although the number of teams participating in the game of softball has declined over the years the City of Syracuse’s support of USSSA, CNY Softball Umpire’s Association and adult softball has not. The City of Syracuse Department of Parks, Recreation and Youth Programs office staff, field maintenance staff along with Mayor Stephanie Miner, Commissioner BayeMuhammad, and the Common Council continue to pride themselves on offering a safe environment for players and spectators along with the best programs at the best facilities.
It is with no doubt that the proud tradition of CITY REC SOFTBALL will continue for years to come.
To the NYS-USSSA Hall of Fame we thank you for recognizing the City of Syracuse as a member of the class of 2011.
