Tom Layo

Tom is a lifelong resident of the Syracuse area and still resides here with his wife of 46 years, Mary. Their family includes two sons and daughter-in-laws (Shawn & Alexis - Todd & Brooke) and three beautiful grandchildren (Tatum, Clive and Orson).

Tom was a member of the first graduating class of Westhill High School in 1964.  From theirs, he went on to attend Rochester Institute of Technology.  After College, he served for five years in the United States Air Force. Under a top secret clearance, he flew 3 1/2 years of missions from Thailand and Okinawa into Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.  He was awarded two air medals for his service.

Professionally, Tom worked fo 31 years as an account executive and sales manager for Metropolitan Life. He then worked for 17 years as a self-employed independent insurance agent for R.K. Johnson and Associates in Camillus.

Tom sponsored and coached a softball team for 13 years in Camillus Community Softball League, serving as its commissioner for 7 years after the passing of former commissioner and USSSA Hall-of-Famer Steve Wilson.  He also sponsored and coached a softball team in the Hopkins Road Fall League for seven years.  In addition to his affiliation with the softball community, Tom has been coordinator of Holy Family Youth Basketball for the past thirty-six years.

Tom is now retired. One of his favorite pastimes is attending Syracuse University football and basketball games, having been a season ticket holder for both since 1974. He also enjoys Traveling with his wife during the summer. Most of all, however, he loves spending time with his family and watching is grandchildren
