Chuck joined the CNY Softball Umpires Association in 1994, and is still active as an umpire almost 27 years later. He has officiated several local leagues, local, state & regional tournaments, and 6 world tournaments at Disney WWOS in Florida.
Born and raised in CNY where he still resides, Chuck is the son of Chuck and Barbara Barry and is the oldest of 4 children with sisters Helen and Nancy Barry, and late brother Frank. Chuck is a very proud Dad of daughter Jen Simpson, son Greg, son in law Mark Simpson & proud "Grampa" to 1 year old Zoey Renee Simpson.
He attended Bishop Ludden and Nottingham high schools, graduating from Nottingham in 1966. Professionally, Chuck has spent his career in the life & health insurance fields. He began at Unity Life, spent many years with Aetna, along with United Healthcare and Mass Mutual. He still works as an agent for United Healthcare Medicare Solutions.
He began playing softball in the late 1960s, and played for over 20 years, primarily with the Hillside. In addition to helping raise a family, Chuck coached little league baseball and basketball, served on the boys basketball staff at Bishop Grimes for 20 years as well as being involved with youth and CYO basketball at St Rose of Lima in N. Syracuse.
Chuck is very well known for being a devoted Syracuse Football and Basketball fan, and has passed down his love of the Orange to his children. He took Jen to her first SU football game at age 3 in 1981 against West Virginia, and Greg as well at age 3 in 1984 against Nebraska. He and Greg are still season ticket holders, and continue attending games together 35 years later. He also loves classic movies, is a huge John Wayne fan, a history buff, and a big supporter of the local CNY music scene. What Chuck is most known for is his love of his family, and devotion to his children and granddaughter.
He would like to express his thanks and appreciation to everyone involved in giving him this wonderful honor.
