Don O'Reilly

Elected : USSSA New York Hall Of Fame in 2014
Inducted : 2015, Islandia, NY

Don started his umpiring career at the age of 13 when he started to umpire in Selden Centereach Little league. As he was growing up his parents encouraged him and his brothers to do things in life that they enjoyed and Don always enjoyed umpiring.  In 1989, at the urging of a friend, he took the umpiring training course and began working USSSA leagues and tournaments. Don has umpired in many Local and Regional tournaments in Baseball, Slow Pitch Softball, and Fast Pitch softball. He has umpired in Oregon, Florida, Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland, North Carolina as well as in upstate New York. He has worked the Slow Pitch Softball World Series in the over 40, Military World Series and the men’s and women’s classes in Disney. He was named the baseball umpire in chief in 2007 for Long Island.

Don attributes his success to mentoring. He learned from the senior umpires as he was a less experienced umpire and is now passing along that same knowledge to the younger and less experienced umpires in the many sports that he enjoys.

Throughout the years, Dons wife Loretta, has been there encouraging him to pursue his passion for umpiring. Don says he could not have gotten as far as he has without her support and thanks her very much for her sacrifices.
