Floyd Bassett

Elected : USSSA New York Hall Of Fame in 2011
Inducted : March 2012, Islandia, NY

Floyd grew up playing baseball as a youth and then switched to softball as a young adult.  But when he started to have a family of his own he knew it was time to put the ball and glove away.  Not wanting to give up the game completely he began his USSSA umpiring career in 1989.

Floyd is a member of the Brookhaven Officials Association and was selected to their Executive Board in 1995.

Floyd worked the semi-finals of the 1994 World “C” tournament held in Brookhaven, LI; and in 1996 he received the Town of Brookhaven’s Nick CarulliUmpire of the Year award.

In 2001, Floyd took over the job of Umpire Assignor, a position that he still holds and is also an area director.
